Innovative Storytelling, first prize singles

Story:

A generation ago, globalization shrank the world. Nations linked by trade and technology began to erase old boundaries. But now barriers are rising again, driven by waves of migration, spillover from wars and the growing threat of terrorism.

To examine this global phenomenon, the Washington Post produced Raising Barriers, a three-part multimedia project that takes viewers to eight countries across three continents exploring the divisions between countries and peoples.

About the Event:

The White House News Photographers Association and World Press Photo are pleased to co-host a presentation on innovative video storytelling by Washington Post video journalist Zoeanne Murphy. Murphy won awards in both the WHNPA and WPP contests this year for her project "Raising Barriers: A New Age of Walls." She will discuss her approach to storytelling with that project and others at the exhibition.

About the host:

The White House News Photographers Association is dedicated to promoting, protecting and advancing the interests and intellectual property rights of its members which still consists of still and video photographers assigned to cover the White House and other news events in Washington and beyond.

We strongly believe in the public’s natural and legal right to freedom in searching for the truth and the right to be accurately and completely informed about the world in which we live.

We believe that there is a direct linkage between the survival of a democratic society and an accurate and free press. Members of the WHNPA maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct in serving the public interest, which includes truth, accuracy and fairness. Our images strive to be objective and independent.
